Attitudes to masculinity among men 18+ participating in and not participating in organised sports: A quantitative study.

2025,  United Kingdom

The study aims to explore how men aged 18 and over who take part in organised sport conceptualise and express attitudes toward masculinity. Masculinity is an important social construct that influences behaviour, identity and wellbeing, particularly in sporting contexts where traditional gender norms are often reinforced. This research will contribute to understanding how sports participation shapes, challenges and allows expression of men’s attitudes to masculinity. Findings may inform interventions and sports coach training curricula to promote healthier attitudes to masculinity within sporting environments and wider society.
