Abstract: This course is designed to provide an overview of the occupational therapy practitioner’s role in addressing sexuality in rehabilitation practice. This session includes an overview of the impact of disability on sexual function including physical and psychological changes. This presentation also addresses practitioner related barriers including knowledge, comfort and attitudes toward sexuality. This course utilizes a lecture format with multiple opportunities for open discussion.
Course Objective(s):
Upon completion of this course, participants will:
Identify sexuality related physical changes resulting from disability.
Identify sexuality related psychological changes resulting from disability.
Identify methods to address sexuality related changes.
Identify personal barriers to addressing sexuality including knowledge, comfort and attitudes.
Participate in activities to reduce barriers to addressing sexuality with their clients.
Identify resources to enhance knowledge and comfort with addressing sexuality.
