To what extent does a parent’s fixed or growth mindset towards music influence the decision for their child to begin and continue/discontinue instrumental music education?

2016,  Australia
My name is Kimberley Turner (Email: turkj002@mymail.unisa.edu.au) and I am studying a Bachelor of Education (Primary) at the University of South Australia. As part of my University studies I am currently completing a course, Introduction to Research in Education, where we are required to complete a small-scale research project. The focus of my project is to discover if there is any correlation between whether a parent has a growth or fixed mindset towards musical ability, and the taking up of and continuation/discontinuation of instrumental music education. To research this topic further I have decided to create a survey that will help me to gather data. Please note: • The survey will be completely anonymous • The survey has 11 questions and should take no more than 10 minutes to complete. • Participation is voluntary • This project has been approved by the University of South Australia’s Human Research Ethics Committee. If you have any ethical concerns about the project or questions about your rights as a participant please contact the Executive Officer of this Committee, Tel: +61 8 8302 3118; Email: Vicki.Allen@unisa.edu.au.
