The influence of past climatic experiences on international students’
climatic adaptability
I would like to invite you to participate in this research project. Before you decide whether you want to take part, it is important for you to read the following information carefully and discuss it with others if you wish. Please ask me if there is anything that is not clear or you would like more information.
Who I am looking for
I am looking for students coming from different countries and regions and correspondingly, different climate conditions. If this applies to you, I would be very grateful if you would participate.
Details of the study
This research aims to understand the factors affecting our environmental perceptions. In order to understand the cultural and genetic factors affecting our thermal and lighting perceptions, students will be requested to participate in this survey.
What will happen if you decide to take part?
If you decide to participate, I will ask you to fill in a brief questionnaire about your perceptions to the lighting and thermal conditions and also, I will also collect some anonymous background information about you to help me understand different people’s responses. This whole process should take around 5 minutes.
It is important to know:
· It is up to you to decide whether or not to take part.
· If you choose not to participate it will involve no penalty or loss of benefits to which you are otherwise entitled.
· If you decide to take part you will be given this information sheet to keep and be asked to sign a consent form.
· If you decide to take part you are still free to withdraw at any time and without giving a reason.
Confidentiality
All the data I collect will be kept strictly confidential. There will be a participant number attached to your results, however, I will not be able to link this back to your name. You will not be able to be identified in any ensuing reports or publications.
All the study materials will be collected and stored in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
