Project Description:

Being the dominant religion of the world, and especially of the United States of America, Christianity promotes a life centered around selflessness and charity. The means through which these qualities are to be expressed, however, is debated among different groups of Chrisitans. The way in which people interpret different sections of the Bible, and the Bible's purpose as a whole text, is likely one of the key differentiating factors in why people drawing on the same scriptures have varied opinions of handling issues of welfare in our nation today. We are investigating this through the use of a survey to gauge people’s demographic information, their view of what the Bible specifically is, and their level of support for governmental welfare and recent proposed and realized COVID-19 relief programs. Understanding these correlations may lead to better ways of approaching this conversation from all angles, and allow for welfare in all forms: government, private, church organized, etc., to be more effectively implemented to make the largest positive impact possible.
