Notes
Great Britain refers to England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The UK independent nuclear deterrent has existed for over 60 years, the UK Government claim that its purpose is to preserve peace, prevent coercion and deter aggression.
The UK operates a continuous at sea deterrent with at least one nuclear-armed ballistic missile submarine patrolling the seas.
Since 1962 the UK has declared its nuclear capability to the defence of NATO.
