You are being invited to take part in this research project. However, before you agree to participant in the research, it is vital you understand why the research is being conducted and what it will entail. Please read the following information carefully.


What is the projects purpose?
This research aims to investigate the question, whether or not prisoners should have the right to vote in the UK. This project is being conducted due to the contemporary nature of the topic, and to explore individual’s opinions on the matter.


Do I have to take part?
It is completely up to you to decide whether or not you wish to take part in the study. If you do decide to take part you may keep a copy of this information sheet that has been provided and you should indicate that you agree via a consent form. Despite this, you can still withdraw from the study at any time you wish, you do not need to have a reason to withdraw.

Will I be recorded?
No, you will not be recorded in any way, other than your individual input on the questionnaire, without further permission being granted by you.


What will happen to the results of the research project?
Results obtain from the research will be displayed a dissertation thesis.

Key Terms
When answering the questionnaire, there are a few key terms to be understood


Blanket Ban- This is where there is a complete restriction upon something, in this circumstance, prisoner voting.
Incarceration - This is to imprison or confine an individual.
Democratic Society - Form of society based on the notion of equal rights, freedom of speech and a fair trail. A healthy functioning society requires responsible citizens who value the governmental system.
Rehabilitation- Emphasis on the notion of correction, rather than punishment.
Retribution- Punishment inflicted upon someone following a criminal act.
